Washington, DC, Oct. 7, 2015 | Christian News Service | – The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) presented its 2015 Faith & Freedom Award to Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) on Wednesday, October 7.
Senator Blunt, Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, has been a champion for religious freedom in the U.S. and abroad. He has played a lead role in combatting the Obamacare regulation requiring insurance coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, and he has been a vocal advocate of Pastor Saeed Abedini and others who are imprisoned for their Christian faith in Iran and around the world. In fact, Senator Blunt was successful in working with former Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) in navigating a bill to the President’s desk in the last session of Congress authorizing a special envoy at the State Department dedicated to religious freedom in the Middle East and South Asia. Senator Blunt has also been vocal for freedom on-air and online, particularly remaining vigilant against a resurgence of the Fairness Doctrine.
Before coming to Congress, Senator Blunt was a history teacher, county official, and later the President of Southwest Baptist University. He is Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee and has seats on the Senate Appropriations and Commerce Committees. He is also the Chairman of the Senate Values Action Team.
“Senator Blunt is a man of faith and conviction, and America is well-served to have him in key leadership posts in the U.S. Senate,” remarked NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson. “He is an ally to those who seek to uphold life and liberty here in America and throughout the world, and we are privileged to honor him with this year’s Faith & Freedom Award.”
NRB annually presents the Faith & Freedom Award to a stalwart defender of religious liberty at its Capitol Hill Media Summit, the annual gathering of the NRB President’s Council in Washington, DC. Past recipients include former Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS); former Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA); Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL); Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR); Alan Sears, President & CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom; Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-VA); and Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ).
