Professional Chefs Deploy to Feed Flood Victims in West Virginia

PORTSMOUTH, Vir., June 25, 2016 / Christian News Service / -– Mercy Chefs, a Virginia based non-profit, disaster relief organization is deploying their team of professional chefs to bring relief to victims, volunteers and first responders of the severe flooding in West Virginia.  The team is scheduled to arrive on site today with their mobile kitchen and refrigerated trailer.

This flood is being labeled a 1,000-year event with the Elkview River cresting yesterday at a record high of 33.37 feet. Governor Tomblin has officially declared a state of emergency. Already twenty deaths have occurred as a result of this historic flooding. Homes have been washed away completely. Hundreds of residents are stranded, and water rescues are still underway. Thousands more remain without electricity and water.

Mercy Chefs’ kitchen is self-sustaining and can continue operation without outside power or potable water. The mobile response unit will be stationed at Bethesda Church located at 232 Bob White Lane in White Sulfur Springs serving professionally prepared meals to anyone in need. Meal service will begin with tonight’s dinner at the earliest and Sunday lunch at the latest.
